About A Time For Change
"A Time for Change” is one of AAHMSNJ's most celebrated exhibits and we're bringing it directly to you as we wrap up Black History Month. Our program will feature segments on:
- The 1964 Democratic Convention in Atlantic City where civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer’s integrated Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party challenged the seating of the all-white Mississippi delegation.
- The Miss Black America Pageant which took place in Atlantic City where Oprah Winfrey competed in 1971 as Miss Tennessee.
- The race riots and civil unrest in black communities from 1964 to 1971.
- South Jersey’s little-known role in civil rights history and the changing tide.
- Pieces from AAHMSNJ’s extensive collection of civil rights and African American historical artifacts.
The evening will also include a live Q&A with AAHMSNJ president and founder Ralph Hunter, Sr. His vision has driven the growth of the museum's vast collection of local and national African American art and memorabilia.
We hope you'll join us and help support the museum's ongoing operation with your $25 registration fee.
